5 Brutal Truths About Adulthood Nobody Warns You About

Meet Bella, CEO of BellaBraids&Beyond. She’s opening up about five truths of adulthood nobody teaches us in school. Read to the end, soak in the wisdom, and let it inspire your own journey. Enjoy!”

1. Not Everyone Will Understand Your Journey

As you grow, you may realize that some people will not agree with you on many things; your career, calling, values, or decisions. That’s okay, because we all view life from different perspectives. It is important to learn how to listen, respect others’ opinions, and carefully evaluate what people say or propose regarding different aspects of your life. At the same time, stay focused and continually review your thoughts in alignment with what you believe is right.

2. Adulthood Is More Mental Than Physical

Many people, especially women, often think of marriage and looking good when they think about adulthood. However, adulthood teaches us that integrity, humility, and consistency matter more than reputation. Who you are when nobody is watching is what truly shapes you. So invest in developing these qualities, because they shape the person you become.

3. You Need to Prioritize Planning

Being an adult means taking responsibility for your actions and your future. To successfully carry out every role or task, you must plan effectively. Plan both short-term and long-term goals. Planning helps you track your progress and stay organized. Your plans should be realistic and achievable so you can accomplish the most important things in your life.

4. You Are a Big Influence

One important thing to know as an adult is that you can either positively or negatively influence others. Life is not just about you; it is also about the impact you make. Every sacrifice, every struggle, and every step you take can become a path for someone else to follow. In many ways, you replicate a version of yourself through your actions. Therefore, strive to do the right thing, not because of pressure, but because of the positive change you want to see.

5. You May Forget to Live

Being an adult can be very overwhelming, especially with responsibilities coming from every direction. Sometimes the pressure from family, work, and expectations can make you forget to even eat or breathe. You may forget to heal, love, or rest. That is why it is important to put measures in place to take care of yourself while you take care of others. Self-care is necessary.

Adulthood is a journey filled with responsibilities, choices, and growth—but it’s also a space for joy, influence, and purpose. Bella’s five lessons remind us that while school may not prepare us for every challenge, wisdom comes from lived experience, faith, and community. As we navigate careers, relationships, and personal growth, may we carry these truths with us: to plan wisely, protect our peace, lead by example, and never forget to truly live.

Adulting isn’t about perfection—it’s about progress, resilience, and grace.
